Bloglines is a free service that makes it easy to keep up with your favorite blogs and news feeds. With Bloglines, you can subscribe to the RSS feeds of your favorite blogs, and Bloglines will monitor updates to those sites. You can read the latest entries easily within Bloglines.
The Bloglines Windows Notifier is a very small (100kb) Windows program that tells you when you have new items in your Bloglines account. The program queries the Bloglines servers at a user-defined interval. It places a small icon on your system tray that changes to indicate when you have new items.
After downloading the program, click on it to install. You will need to enter the email address you use to log into Bloglines. To do so, after the notifier is running, right click on the icon to bring up the preferences window. This version 3 of the Bloglines Windows Notifier includes the following updates.
1. Works with proxies.
2. It's easier to specify the time between updates, and longer intervals are available
3. Clicking on the Bloglines icon now always brings up a browser window; previously it would only do that if you had new items to read.
4. A new browser window is used instead of reusing an existing window.
5. Clicking on the icon to bring up your Bloglines account also resets the unread count in the notifier to 0 so if you have a long update interval this will prevent false unread readings
Advantages
  • Very Small, Lightweight, compact, freeware.
Disadvantages
  • None in particular.
